Internships would be able to provide you with the actual skills that you need in order to perform the job well making it count as part of your work experience. If done well, there are also some companies who absorb interns as part of their roster of employees.

One other option that you might want to look into is the various resume distribution systems that can be found online. These websites usually email resume to various companies who are in need of qualified applicants. Although your resume would get to more companies without you breaking a sweat, it is still a good idea to make sure that you have a professional looking resume and cover letter. This would enable your resume to stand out.

As part of your career search, you should also join professional societies and actively participate in their meetings.
